Lambeth Council to roll out more EV chargepoints

Lambeth Council are expanding its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure through rolling out more charging points, as well as taking control of the borough’s charging network.

Lambeth currently has more than 400 EV charging points across the borough with a further 70 fast or rapid points and 264 lamppost charging points planned to be installed this year.

From Monday 17th March, the remaining Lamp column EV charging infrastructure will change as the council moves the operation over to its in-house system.

Deputy council leader councillor Rezina Chowdhury, cabinet member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air, said: “This is an exciting moment for Lambet as we are implementing an innovative own and operate model, one of the first of its kind in the country.

“It gives the council control over how we grow the network without causing disruption to residents and businesses. It will allow us to install chargepoints in areas where they are most needed. It also means we can be afar and transparent on pricing and respond quickly to any issues, with revenues reinvested in improving the service.”

Existing EV users who use an Ubitricity chargepoint in Lambeth will still be able to charge their vehicle, but will need to use the ClenergyEV smartphone app.
